Wax Museum

Just came back from such an awesome time at Jimmy's school. All the kids dress up as a character from the past and pretend to be wax museum figures. People go over and tap them on the head or shoulder and the kids repeat lines telling a little bit about who they are portraying. Jimmy was Neil Armstrong and he did a great job!! He spoke clearly, looked people in the eyes and didn't need notes to say his lines. What a great idea for the school. I loved it. There was a little kid who dressed up as Elvis. I went over and tapped his head. He talked about Elvis' history and his time in the military. When he spoke about him getting married to Priscilla he said 'thank you very much'....in Elvis tone. All of Jimmy's friends were all dressed up and were great. I didnt think you could take pictures so I left the camera at home.
Zach was Bobby Orr, Clayton was John Elway, Connor was JFK, Shea was Tom Brady and I forget the rest.
In the end Jimmy broke out of his wax pose and ran over and gave me a hug. He's getting so grown up but he's still my little boy.

Oreo Cookies

Love those Oreo cookies and so does Jack. I was sitting on the couch yesterday just chilling with my homey Jack. He brought out six oreo cookies and dismantled each one of them in front of me. He separated the cookies and dug his fingers through the cream. It wasnt that he did it, but how he did it that was hilarious. He was so intense as he dug that finger into that vanilla cream and shoveled into his mouth. There was nothing else going on in the world to him he was so focused on that cookie.

October ramblings and more

Well, if we've been busier in the last decade or so I dont remember it. The weather cant seem to make up its mind whether to be warm, rainy or cold Last week, the whole garage was turned upside down and most of its contents ended up in the driveway. some things were thrown out and others were re-organized into tupperware bins. What a relief to see the ground in there. Some hens went walking by when Lyn was coming in and she overheard them bitching about what a mess it was. tisk tisk tisk
Lyn has been going to renew her RN license during most days. That leaves a couple of days during the week for Jackie, Catherine and me to hang out for a while. Catherine goes to preschool three days a week so a couple of days a week its just me and Jack. We've been going to his favorite coffee shop and breakfast diner each day its just he and I. After going to see Bridey and then Patricia we, of course, head over to Black Gordon. Today, we did all that and went to see that old Black train in the cold rain. We just love that train. As I said, Catherine has been going to pre-school at the high school. Big Meghan is a sophomore in that high school and occasionally sees her in the hallway. Catherine thinks she is so cool because she goes to high school. The other kids are a little jealous because most other kids have to go through the other grades before they go to high school.
Laura has been in an out of sickness for the past couple of weeks...or has she. She has complained of a sore throat and belly ache off an on for a couple of weeks but there was no redness and no temperature. These symptoms seemed to have gone away once I brought her to the doctors office after the last time and they took a culture of her throat again. She didnt really like that too much. Actually, it was more like a lobster getting boiled in a pot the way she was screaming in the doctors office. It was her birthday last Thursday and I was scheduled to go read a book from the Fancy Nancy series to her class. Then she got sick and I had to postpone the reading until today. The kids were cute and very attentive. Laura drew a Halloween picture for me, how cute of course. She was very excited for me to be there and she got to sit in a chair next to me while I read the book.
The kids are getting excited about halloween. Jimmy is going to be a policeman, Laura and Catherine will be witches and jack is going to be Buzz Lightyear. I think he really liked the ToyStory movie when we went to see it in 3D. He always yells out "to infinity and beyond' when we ask him about Buzz Lighyear.
We were surprised to see that Jimmy wanted to get a costume this year. The whole family went to the Halloween store to look for costumes. At one point Jim and I went to the changing rooms. Out of one of the dressing rooms came a young tart dressed, well, to say dressed would be overstating her wardrobe. She had chosen a slinky type of costume and came out to look at herself in the mirror. James was staring though I think his stare was more of a look at her costume...as opposed to......some other people who were around there. Keeping my dollar bills inside my pocket, we just bought the police outfit without trying it on.
I'm still up in the air as to what I am going to wear but there is always something.

Apple/Pumpkin picking and Laura's birthday

We finally made it to the farm for some apple and pumpkin picking. There were still tons of apples available, which was surprising. Luckily, I was a little taller than most of the other pickers so I was able to reach the taller brances that hadn't been picked over. This way we got some big apples.
At one point I was able to climb into the trees and throw some of top apples down to jimmy who would catch them with two hands and then put them in the bag. It was at this point that I realized that all the baseball play with Jackie has been paying off. While on the inside of the trees I got bopped off the side of the head with an apple. He had seen Jimmy and I doing the flip and save and he just wanted to join in. We played outside before the bus this morning and he's getting good with the grounders too.
Also, today is Laura's seventh birthday. Imagine that!!!

Jack is three

I blink and 13 days have gone by since my poor blog has seen a new entry, or so I have been told. Its good to have followers. Here are some updates on the little buggahs over the last 13 days.

All six of us went to see a double feature of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 at the cinema. To top it off it was in 3D. The glasses were huge and looked hilarious on Jackies face especially. All the kids loved wearing them. It was something new for them to wear. It was unreal how well Jack did. He stuck it out for the whole first movie but after the intermission, he was toast. But we take our little victories when we get them. We had warned the kids about the bathroom trips and kept them to a minimum. In the backpack we had loaded alot of sweets for the kids so they had plenty of sugar to go with their popcorn and drinks.
On the next day we ended up going out to Parkers Maple barn for an awesome breakfast. Aunt Jo had bid on a gift certificate that she given us and it was waiting for us to use it. Tons of food and we ate so much we didnt have to eat again for a long long time. Well, at least I didnt. That Jimmy has the biggest appetite of any kid i've ever seen. On the way home from the Barn we stopped in on the old Ponderosa. It was unbelievable how different it looked. Its been six years since we moved out and back into civilization. I miss the old farm. It was five acres of fun and I think I miss it, except for the long ride.
Jimmy has had fall baseball on saturdays in the rain and cold. I decided that I would take over and coach his baseball teams whenever given the chance because, of course, I always know better.....oo boy. Well, he has gotten so much better even since the summer season has ended. He decided that he wanted to take the year off from hockey. I cant say as I was dissapointed but I think he wants to go back and play next year.
Laura has been playing soccer and doing quite well at it too. She as usual says that she doesnt want to go but does have so much fun playing and hell, she's good too.
Catherine didnt quite last in her soccer. Jack has just been Jack. Full of life at 100 miles an hour. It was his third birthday last week and we took the whole gang to the hockey game that night for his birthday. He loved going to the hockey game and we were quite lucky to get seats two rows off the ice. This way, the play was right in front of us and it kept his attention, especially when they were fighting or hitting right there. He's been doing the goalie re-enacting thing all week. They have this Devil Dawg guy in a costume that goes around during the game. Jackie was a little afraid of him at first but later on in the game he was high fiving him.

Just another day hanging out with Catherine and Jack. We played outside for a little while and then I asked them where they wanted to go. It was unanimous that they wanted to go to the Coffee shop and to see Black Gordon. Its amazing how much fun we've had with that old Black train over the years.

Patricia from the coffee shop is always so good to the kids. Jack was so funny with her, pretending to be shy....am thinking he's flirting.

Hoping that the kids dont ever grow old of Black Gordon but, I know they will someday. no rush.
